EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
I have several passions in life, three of which include older adults, Bay Cove Human Services, and most recently, fitness ... and I have found the perfect way to integrate all three. While my knees prevent me from running 26.2, I can support my teammates whose knees are in better shape are running in the Boston Marathon to support Bay Cove.
I am volunteering at the Marathon to raise funds for Bay Cove’s Kit Clark Senior Services. Named after Dorchester community activist Catherine (Kit) Forbes Clark, Kit Clark Senior Services has an integrated continuum of services that provide support for about 4,000 elders each year. With over 200 staff and more than 30 program locations across Boston, Kit Clark has an enormously positive impact on the lives of thousands of senior Bostonians and their families.
Kit Clark’s professional staff conduct programs in five different languages, ensuring these much needed support services reach elders with diverse ethnic backgrounds. In Kit Clark’s day programs, participants meet new friends and discover interests in an exciting and warm environment. Each person chooses from a variety of therapeutic and creative individual or group activities. Outings and seasonal celebrations are offered on a regular basis.
Kit Clark also provides nutritious and fresh meals to over 1,200 seniors each day. Many of these meals are delivered to homebound seniors through the Meals on Wheels program. Some are brought to congregate sites where older adults come for socialization, activities, and a nutritious meal. Additionally, Kit Clark has a fleet of handicapped-accessible vehicles and provides transportation between seniors' homes and program sites for adult day health, memory loss, congregate nutrition, and program related recreation programs.
Please join me in supporting Kit Clark and Bay Cove, and help provide seniors with the resources they need to live full, rich lives.
