Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my page. Over the last year I have become closely involved with iMentor and am very excited to share my experience with you.
It's been a while since we went to high school (let's not say how long!) but it's not hard to remember the overwhelming emotions that came with graduation prep. Grades, tests, recommendation letters, financing, moving away from home. Many of us were the first generation to go to college or join the military. For me, it was as stressful as it was exciting - and I largely managed the process on my own.
How different would it have been if I had someone to guide me? A college grad who actually wanted to help me find answers - and was there specifically for me? Add to that a program explaining the process and resources to reach my goals, and the sky would be the limit!
When a friend first introduced me to iMentor, all of those feelings came rushing back. I signed up immediately and was matched with Vanessa last fall - and I can't believe the similarities! We both love reading, have several siblings and are a bit unclear on what we want to do when we grow up. :-) In just a few short months, Vanessa seems willing to ask questions, set goals and listen to my suggestions. We talk about everything from after-school activities to ways to pay for college. I know she has a lot of influences in her life, but it's amazing to know that I can make a difference in her future - and that she's making quite an impact on mine.
iMentor is providing mentors and career resources for EVERY student at James Lick High School. It costs iMentor's programming team about $1,000 to provide one mentor-mentee pair with access to iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources.
Here is what your support can do for students like my mentee, Vanessa:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
I know there are a lot of amazing causes you can support. Thank you for considering helping us reach our goal!
