THE STORY:
The Minnesota Wing of the CAF is making efforts to restore our B-25 “Miss Mitchell” with as much detail as possible to exhibit how she looked during combat operations in WWII.
We have already made great strides in the restoration process, including:
- Getting the top and tail turrets operational
- Restoring the bomb release system to original, operational condition
- Connecting and verifying operation of the Norden Bombsight
- Stenciling the exterior of the aircraft utilizing original WWII drawings
Although these are huge first steps, we have a long way to go! We have a number of projects we are trying to complete this winter, including:
- Installing the radio rack and WWII radios
- Add components for the waist guns and tail gun system
- Decals for the interior of the aircraft
- Install all the original VHF, LF and HF antennas
- Adding the flare gun, bomb camera, and other original furnishings
- Finishing landing gear, floors, and equipment to original specs
