Thank you for supporting Pete's Posse!
Why We Walk: Our son Pete was diagnosed with ASD at the age of 2. Throughout his 16 years he continuously works to communicate...to simply tell us if he is hungry, thirsty, hurt, frustrated, afraid, or confused. He focuses non-stop on enduring sensory input such as lights, sounds, textures, and crowds. Pete has made tremendous progress, but he will struggle with the challenges of ASD his entire life. Pete at this point will never drive, never get married, never live independently. However, Pete brightens the world of everyone he encounters. He is happy. He never stops learning. He is our joy.
How as ASA Berks Helped?: The Autism Society of Berks County allows families, including ours to participate in FREE family friendly activities in a supportive environment without fear of judgement. We have met many families who live with similar strugges. They have shown us that we are not alone. ASA Berks provides individuals like Peter with various skill building activities with certified professionals such as yoga, social skills, and music therapy for FREE! The Autism Society of Berks County provides sizeable scholarships to local camps and organizations who benefit those with autism, so families do not have to struggle with the financial burdern that comes with raising a child with autism. They are also dedicated to educatinig the community at large about autism. Their support is invaluable.
Thank you for helping us help the Autism Society of Berks County continue their mission of "improving the lives of all those affected by autism."
