BENEFITING: Children's Medical Center Dallas
EVENT DATE: Sep 23, 2017
Hi! My name is Ashlyn Duy and I am a junior attending Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, Texas. When I was 10, I felt my heart race for the first time while I was sitting down outside doing absolutely no activity. When I went to the hospital (not Children's), they told me it was simply "dehydration." For the following 3 years, performing physical activity my heart rate would kick up to more than 240 beats per minute even when I was fully hydrated. After one of my more significant episodes, my mom got a recommendation to take me to Children's, where I was given a heart monitor. Within 3 months, we caught the problem, tachycardia (they burned an electrical pathway on my heart), and I had surgery, a heart ablation, which solved the problem!
For my third time, on September 23, I'm choosing to play in the Children Helping Children tennis tournament. This year I'll be in the highly competitive 16U Boys singles bracket. I do this to help other children who have conditions and illnesses much more severe than mine was, and every dollar will make a difference in their lives. I plan on playing my "heart" out.
This tournament has legacy of raising over 2.9 million dollars. Its founders, Ken and Pam Sumrow, set out over 25 years ago to create a tennis tournament that could alter cancer-ridden children's lives in a positive way, in honor of their son who was successfully treated at Children's.
By clicking on the red "Donate" button on the right, you will be supporting a great cause; so that someday another kid might have the same healthy outcome and great opportunity to play tennis as I do. No donation is too small to help a child. Help me make a difference.
P.S. These donations are tax-deductible, feel free to share my page :)
