The past year has been an incredibly difficult journey, not only for myself, but for my entire family. Last year, my dad was diagnosed with oral cancer. In September 2016 he had to have major mouth and neck surgery. He lost all of his lymph nodes, some muscles in his neck, the flooring of his mouth, and part of his tongue. He has just completed his radiation and chemotherapy treatments, which have taken a toll on him physically, mentally, and emotionally. He’s been incredibly tough throughout all this and I can’t imagine what it must be like to be in his place. I hope that after all of this he will be in remission and we will all be able to recover from a very difficult past year. I am so very thankful that everyone has been such a huge help to my family and me. Without the support of friends and family, it would have been an impossible journey alone since my mother is also ill.
On July 8th my girlfriend and I will be taking part in the Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race. This race is incredibly important because it is in support of the American Cancer Society, and I want to help raise money in awareness of oral cancer and cancer in general. Oral cancer is very difficult to detect without being properly screened, and it is a disease that doesn’t just affect the patient but everyone that is close to them. So, if you are able, please help me raise money for this worthy cause. I hope that a couple months from now I will be able to say my dad is cancer free! Thank you for your support!
