As a young girl, I watched my grandmother slowly slip away as Alzheimer's ravaged her brain. My aunt came from New York to live and care for her. The thought of the effect it had on my aunts life, as a caregiver, never even occurred to me. 30 years later, it is my mom, Ann. She is so sweet. The most fascinating part of this journey is all the love she still gives to others. It radiates through her touch and her intimate eye to eye contact. However, the difference this time around is I am fully aware of the impact on the caregivers. In our situation, it is mostly my Dad. My Dad receives respite from two amazing care givers that we could not function without. Respite care is so necessary and I am grateful for Hilarity for Charity for making this a focus. Alzheimer's patients may lose their memories but they don't have to lose their lives and neither should their caregivers. With the respite care that Hilarity for Charity provides, living can continue. Thank you for your donations.
