Angel Covers is a volunteer run organization dedicated to providing holistic care to orphaned and impoverished children around the world. We believe each and every child deserves access to quality, education, nutrition, shelter, and medical care. Angel Covers promotes safe and healthy environments that encourages children’s growth and independence. As a result, children blossom into empowered adults who break the cycle of poverty for future generations. An example of Angel Covers’ impact is the Humble Hearts Project. As a boarding school, Humble Hearts cares for the most vulnerable population in Nairobi, Kenya: deaf and orphaned children. Local people believe children who are deaf are cursed and unable to learn, while orphans seldomly have adults who provide adequate care for them. Humble Hearts provides loving care-givers, consistent meals, medical care, and a quality education to those who need it most.
Funds will be used to buy beds and bedding for 287 children living at Humble Hearts. Currently, 2 to 3 kids share a bed because there isn’t enough for everyone. A good night’s sleep is vital to a child’s growth and learning. Furthermore, children’s health improve when they have their own space. The funds will buy extra sets of bunk beds and the bedding needed for each one. By providing additional bunk beds, donors will provide children with the space needed for improved sleep and learning.
The funds will also be used to buy school furniture and supplies. In some classes, up to 4 schoolchildren share one desk. It’s so crowded that children use dining hall tables for desks. Funds will buy extra desks and chairs for secondary schoolchildren, and more desks for primary schoolchildren. Donors will provide the necessary school supplies and space needed for quality education. With your support:
- $8 provides a chair for a preschool student
- $15 provides a desk for a primary student
- $45 provides a desk for a secondary student
- $50 provides bedding for a child
- $60 provides a dining hall table and chairs for students
- $100 helps to buy a bunk bed for two children
The Humble Hearts Project improves the lives of the most vulnerable children in Kenya. These children have experienced some of the worst conditions possible: no access to clean water, unsafe living conditions, little food, and violent neighborhoods. For some, $5000 doesn’t make much of an impact. However, the deaf and orphaned children of Humble Hearts have the possibility of a better life. Beatrice, the Director of Humble Hearts, highlights the school impact on former students:
'Kids who have gone through Humble Hearts are in one way or another doing well. One student who graduated last year has found part time employment and is saving to go to college. At least with a form four certificate from Humble Hearts, they can get casual jobs to sustain them while they save to further their studies. Another student who also graduated last year now works for a school as a teacher’s aide. She used to live with her uncle who was very cruel. But with her new job she has found a small house and lives with her younger sister who is still in school. She is an orphan. Some of our deaf children are in vocational colleges, while others are in secondary schools for the deaf. It was easy for them to find places to join since we had prepared them all well. The kids who left Humble Hearts have found meaning life. They no longer look at themselves as poor or orphaned; they know with the education they have they can better it to become whatever they want to be.'
