I look forward to the day when the word cancer isn't a scary word. We all know someone who has had cancer, and most of us know someone who has passed away from it. My hope is that my children will not have to face fear when they hear the word cancer.
There was one point in my life when all 4 of our parents were battling cancer. My Dad a rare form of throat cancer, my Father-in-Law a rare stomach sarcoma, my Mom & Mother-in-Law both breast cancer. My Father-in-law passed away nearly 10 years ago, and my Dad almost 4 years ago.
My Dad spent quite a bit of time at Island Hospital after he was diagnosed with colon cancer. I remember him telling me how kind the staff was during his chemotherapy treatments. This is why I want the money raised to go directly to the Merle Cancer Care Center at Island Hospital in Anacortes.
It will be an honor to walk this day in celebration of his life.
Thank you so much to my family and friends who are supporting this cause. It means the world to me, and to our beautiful town.
