Ami Guilliams: Keep the Candle Burning
Organized by: Shannon Cole
Shine the light and pierce the dark – one ray is all you need. Ami Guilliams is a ray of light looking back at my life. Ami and I met in college in the mid-1990s in Florida. She was in transition, a college student looking for a place to call home for the new semester. After a few nights of crashing on my couch, we moved to a bigger apartment – two girls and their Disney videos. Ami was a ball of energy, giving of her time, her smiles, and her heart. After graduation, Ami and I took separate paths into the next seasons of our lives. Her path lead to marrying and starting a family (two boys) with the University’s baseball coach, Greg Guilliams. Currently, the Guilliams reside in Valdosta , GA, where Greg is the coach for the Valdosta State Blazers (http://bit.ly/1KKAKCX).
Through the years, Ami and I have keep in touch from time to time on Facebook; however, recently, her newsfeed began telling a tale of serious hardship. You see, over the years, Ami has been battling cancer; it’s amazing how it seems so indiscriminate of age. Recently, it became active again in various parts of her body. She has always had these beautiful, doe-like eyes that sparkle with mischief but now are hiding her fear inside. Strong and brave, she continues to fight for herself, her family, and her hope. Thankfully, she and her family have placed that hope in God who continues to bless them through the circumstances with love and support.
The Keep the Candle Burning Campaign seeks to raise funding for the substantial medical bills the Guilliams Family is incurring from Ami’s treatment. Unfortunately, as many of us have experienced, medical insurance does not always cover all the care that is needed. So let me ask you this, would you be willing to make a difference in this family’s life? If so, I encourage you to make a financial donation to the Keep the Candle Burning Campaign. Even just a donation of $3 - $5 dollars is significant when combined with those of others. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll consider this act a little ray of light in your life …
When you're down and you're discouraged, When the darkness clouds your view, You've got to gather up your courage. You know the Lord is gonna see you through. Let me tell you now, tell you now...
When you're walking in the dead of night, When your soul is churning, When you hope seems out of sight, Keep the candle burning. All it takes is one steady heart, In a world that's turning. Shine a light and pierce the dark, Keep the candle burning. Keep the candle burning.
