Internal Strength and Gratitude...
When I signed up to run the 2015 Boston Marathon in the fall of 2014, I had no idea what type of impact it would have on my life. I had so many emotions throughout my 6 month training period. I felt determination, gratitude, pain, pride, friendship, selflessness, mind over body, strength, commitment, sadness; the list goes on. When you raise money for a cause that means something to you, you experience so many feelings. When you run a marathon, you experience so many feelings. Never in a million years would I have ever thought that this experience would change my life. Well it did…for the better.
I am running for a family who has someone who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s two years ago. I watch them struggle as caregivers and it breaks my heart. I am fortunate that I do not personally have a family member with the disease. But time could change that. I want to help those who are battling the disease, those who are taking care of family with the disease, and create awareness and help to find a cure for this dreadful disease.
When I first set up my fundraising page last year, my goal was set at $10,000. I was able to quickly reach that goal with the help of generous family members, friends and even total strangers. The support was overwhelming. People who I know couldn’t afford to donate, sent in a donation without even thinking about it mainly because they were touched in some way by this disease. The more I talked about my mission, the more people I encountered with friends and family with Alzheimer’s. My final fundraising total was $17,500.00.
My personal goal for 2016 has been set at $25,000. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but compared to what it will take to find a cure and help support caregivers, it’s just a drop in the bucket. We need to put an end to this. Please help me by donating, sharing my page on social media, emailing the link. If your employer will match your donation, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will let the association know so that it gets credited to my personal fundraiser. If you feel more comfortable writing a check, please email me for details.
I thank each and every one of you for helping me. Your financial and moral support means the world to me!
