2016 Marathon - It's a Wrap!
April 25, 2016
BENEFITING: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
ORGANIZER: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
On April 18th 2016, I will be participating in the 120th running of the Boston Marathon while raising money for the MA/NH chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of my father, Thomas Dwyer. This year will mark the 10 year anniversary - almost to the day - of Dad's passing, and 4th time I have run for this wonderful charity.
You may already be familiar with the facts, but it is worth a reminder: Over 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. It is a degenerative and fatal disease of the brain for which there is currently no cure. People with Alzheimer’s disease slowly lose their abilities to remember, to think, to communicate and to care for themselves. Ultimately, they become totally dependent on others for their daily care – a fact my family is all too familiar with, having lived through it with my Dad.
But there is hope. The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. Their efforts to promote research and advocacy has led to a better understanding of the disease, which in turn has yielded improved ways to diagnose and potentially treat Alzheimer’s Disease. There is finally real enthusiasm in the field that effective therapies are on the horizon.
I have set a goal of raising $15,000 from over 200 contributors - this would surpass my previous fundraising efforts, and I think it’s doable! Alexis and I will kick things off w/ $500, and will add another $500 if/when I get to $14,500. I ask for your help in filling in the remaining $14,000, and hope you will respond generously with a tax-deductible donation.
If you have any questions or wish to make an offline donation, please email me at email@example.com or call me at 617-308-2139. Given the amount I hope to raise, donations of any amount are welcome and will be greatly appreciated. Also, feel free to spread the word!
Let's all help the Alzheimer’s Association realize its vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease! Thanks for your continued support!
