Alwun House Foundation is the first nonprofit independent arts organization in downtown Phoenix, showcasing the arts since 1971. Alwun House provides an entry-point opportunity for 1000’s of emerging artists in its 47 years of exhibitions and performances. Alwun House was a catalyst to the Roosevelt Row art scene in Phoenix.
Annually, AHF produces 10-12 exhibits. Each year hundreds of established and emerging artists, exhibit in thematic group exhibits, or solo and collaborative showcase opportunities in our gallery and stage. During our last fiscal year we presented the works of 836 artists. We showcased 407 artists on our gallery walls and featured 429 performing artists on stage.
Our group exhibits serve a wide range of artists and viewers alike. We have a 27 year partnership with Phoenix Elementary School District #1 a juried exhibition of student artworks in Salon des Enfants, and Lighthouse exhibit partners with ASU student Neon Art Club, and for 36 years the envelope pushing Exotic Art Show serves mature audiences.
Alwun House lead the scene for diversity as we were also the first Arizona gallery to produce a gay themed exhibit in the seventies, and continues that spirit of diversity by producing an “LBGTQ: Rights & Justice” exhibit at Burton Barr Central Library, which last year produced the largest ever First Friday attendance at Burton Barr.
Our audience is multicultural multigenerational, from early 20’s young urban creatives, to mature baby boomers. The fact that Alwun House produces quality programming and productions was given credence in 2013, when awarded the Governor’s Arts Award for Community service.
