BENEFITING: Alumbra Cares
Please consider a donation to Alumbra Cares, a non-profit 501(c)(3) incorporated in Las Vegas, NM in May of 2016. Alumbra Cares was founded in response to the closure of the OB Department at Alta Vista Regional Hospital in March of 2016. Its mission is to **provide compassionate and holistic women’s health services including maternity care** and **raise and steward funds necessary to maintain a healthcare system for the women in the Northeastern New Mexico communities**. Our vision is to create a sustainable healthcare system that improves the health and lives of women in Las Vegas, NM and surrounding areas.
Since the OB department closure Alumbra Women's Health and Maternity Care, LLC, a for profit nurse-midwifery practice, anticipated this day would come. With the closure we lost the revenue we generate with our billing for hospital services and this was almost half our annual income. We have done all we can to keep things going. To cut costs we reduced our hours of operation and staff was reduced through attrition. We applied for and received a little EMR incentive funding. We also incorporated a non-profit called Alumbra Cares. We have managed to stay open a good 4 months longer than projected but things have gotten to a point where we just can't meet our obligations without more money. This is where the non-profit comes in. It can help us get the extra money to help keep these services available in the community.
Alumbra is currently the only full time provider of maternity care services in the community and we are a locally owned and operated business. We are here to serve the women of Las Vegas, Mora, Santa Rosa, Wagon Mound, Springer and all the towns and villages in between. Our only goal since the OB department closure has been to keep these services available in town so women wouldn't have to travel to and from Santa Fe, Raton, or Taos for prenatal visits. If we close the town will not only lose maternity services but other important women's health services like annual exams, pap smears, birth control (we do IUD and Nexplanon insertions), hormone therapy, pessary care and much much more. Also, more importantly, we risk losing some very, very important people in the community. These are the professionals that many community organizations have strived to attract and retain. Our providers are attentive and compassionate and they really care about their patients. No donation is too small. Please support the healthcare of women in Northeastern New Mexico. Muchas Gracias! Thank you for your time.
