Alonzo King LINES Ballet is a celebrated contemporary ballet company that has been guided since 1982 by the vision of Alonzo King, who actively develops new works with artists from diverse disciplines and cultures. Collaborators have included the Ba'Aka from Central African Republic, China's Shaolin Monks, vocalist Lisa Fischer, pianist Jason Moran, saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders, actor Danny Glover, tabla master Zakir Hussain, bassist and composer Edgar Meyer, and media artist Jim Campbell. King has received major recognition, including Master of Choreography by the Kennedy Center, New York's Bessie Award, US Artists Award, Jacob's Pillow Creativity Award, Doris Duke Artists Award, and San Francisco Mayor's Art Award. Each year, LINES premieres new works in bi-annual San Francisco Home Seasons, which go on to tour nationally and internationally.
LINES is dedicated to training the next generation of dancers through its pre-professional Summer Program, Training Program, and Bachelor of Arts Program in conjunction with Dominican University. LINES also focuses on making dance accessible to Bay Area youth and adults through LINES Dance Center and Community Programs.
