“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t”
Hi, I’m Maria Maletta-Hastie I currently reside in Scranton and am the proud mom of two sons, Antonio and Angelo. I am a graduate of Marywood University and after many human services and long term care experiences, am currently the Outreach and Enrollment Coordinator at LIFE Geisinger.
I guess you can say I’m a late bloomer, not very athletic at all, I began running at 50. My journey began in 2012 while serving on a cross country/track and field fundraising committee at my children’s high school, I said to my friends, “we should all run this 5k race next year, it’s only 3.1 miles how hard could it be.” Well, everyone laughed of course, but a year later I ran that 5k. It wasn’t pretty but I did it, the next day I joined the Scranton Running Company running group and I was hooked. I quickly learned what supportive and tight knit community runners are; numerous 5k, 10k and 4 half marathons later I am humbled and honored to be chosen to be on WNEP’s Ryans Run 7 team to run the NYC Marathon. I was fortunate to watch my boys run cross country throughout their elementary and high school years and grateful for they had the drive and ability to achieve their goals. I guess you can say they inspired me to do the same.
Having lived in Northeast PA my entire life I know very well both personally and professionally the impact Allied Services has not only in the area, but far reaching. My son was treated with professionalism and compassion after an knee injury that required physical therapy. He was on his feet and able to rejoin his team because of great care. I am grateful to be able to give back to an organization that has done so much for so many and continues daily to provide exceptional care. I thank Allied Services and WNEP’s Ryans Run 7 for the opportunity to continue the mission of helping individuals overcome the obstacles they face on their journey to strength and independence. I look with excitement towards this journey and to your support in helping me achieve my goal.
