Alison's Outdoors Empowered Run
Organized by: Alison Paul
EVENT DATE Nov 08, 2015
Have you ever: climbed a tree, hiked until your feet ache, had a s'more around a campfire or slept under the stars? If yes, you know how powerful those experiences can be. Time outdoors is important for our us and unfortunately these experiences are becoming rare for kids today.
I am working with a great organization—the Outdoors Empowered Network (OEN)—and we want to get more kids outdoors and connected to nature for their benefit and the benefit of our planet. We can’t do it alone though and I am asking you—my friends and family—to join in this effort.
On November 8th I’ll be running the Golden Gate Half Marathon to raise important funds for the Outdoors Empowered Network.
What does OEN do exactly? We support a network of organizations and programs across the country that follow a two-part and time-tested model for getting kids outdoors. First we help train educators to lead rewarding and safe wilderness adventures in their communities and then build gear libraries to comfortably and economically outfit groups for their outdoor activities. In 2014 we helped get over 9,000 youth outdoors and most of these youth would not have otherwise had the opportunity to hike or camp.
How can you help? If you know me, you know I love the outdoors and while I like running, I don’t love it. But, I’ll run 13.1 miles in order to support a cause that’s very near and dear to my heart: getting kids outside enjoying nature through hiking, camping, and invigorating nature experiences.
So, this November, as I go west for the Outdoors Empowered Network’s National Summit and Board meeting, I hope you’ll support me by pledging your gift as I get out my running shoes to traverse the streets and hills of San Francisco.
We currently have a board match situation, so by donating to my run your contribution will be doubled. If you'd rather give directly to OEN (and get your tax deduction) please do so directly at outdoorsempowered.org.
