The Alberni Valley Hospice Society sustains compassionate care, human dignity, and provides education and advocacy to individuals and their families facing life-limiting illness, death, and bereavement.

Our Goals

to offer skilled, compassionate volunteers to our community
to enhance quality of life and help make a life passage both manageable and meaningful
to assist people to live fully until the very end of life, with dignity and comfort, surrounded by family and friends
to provide ongoing bereavement support
to promote and actively support a coordinated, multidisciplinary, community wide program of hospice palliative care
to increase and strengthen the community by promoting awareness on subjects related to end of life care.

The AV Hospice Society's staff and volunteers see clients and families who are living with a life threatening illness or experiencing bereavement.

Some of our services are available to a broader demographic within the community, including our Lending Library, Advance Care Planning assistance, and the Reflections life story recording program.  Available services include:

companioning the client

anticipatory grief support for client and family

provision and discussion of helpful information related to end-of-life, dying, caregiving and bereavement

Email support

respite for the caregiver

Ty Watson House - Residential hospice bed program

individual and group caregiver support

vigil sitting at end of life for caregiver respite or when a caregiver is not available

practical assistance (reading, writing letters, running errands, outings, etc)

Spiritual Care

Holistic Health Services (including Healing Touch and Reiki)

Lending library of information related to alternative therapies, end-of-life, dying, caregiving, and bereavement

Reflections - Life story telling program

Assistance with Advance Care Planning
