THE STORY:

Everybody needs a helping hand at some point in their life!  And when they do, Samaritans is there! That's why we're asking you to support this important cause.

Sunday, September 24 is the date of Samaritans 5th Annual 'BE A FRIEND'  Walkathon to support the work of NYC's only community-based organization devoted to preventing suicide, saving lives and helping people in distress.

Samaritans operates NYC's 24-hour suicide hotline, support groups that provide solace to those touched by suicide, and education and community outreach programs that teach the public and health providers how to help those in need.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US, the 2nd leading cause of death of our youth.  You might be surprised to learn that1 out of 5 Americans experience depression each year!   Though most of us know someone who struggles with mental health problems, very few people think of making a charitable donation to maintain the all-important support services they need to get through their difficult times.

So please support our efforts--and those of Samaritans caring hotline volunteers and friends--to help Samaritans provide immediate and ongoing support to those who are depressed, in distress and suicidal.   It is a wonderful organization literally doing life-saving work.  And every donation you make is 100% tax-deductible.  Thank you.
