BENEFITING: AKTIV Against Cancer
ORGANIZER: AKTIV Against Cancer
Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,
As some of you may know, I am running the NYC Marathon in just under two weeks! My inspiration to run comes mainly from a close friend whom I lost in highschool to a battle with brain cancer. From that moment till present day I have sought out ways to give back to those affected by cancer in his honor.
While at Penn, I devoted my time to Camp Kesem, which is a student-run organization that creates a community for children whose parents have been diagnosed or who have passed from cancer. Once every summer, we hosted a week-long camp just outside of Philadelphia for hundreds of younger kids and teenagers.
Upon graduation I wanted to continue to stay involved, and after moving to NYC I was connected with AKTIV – and the opportunity to raise money for an amazing organization. AKTIV Against Cancer was founded by NYC Marathon Champion Grete Waitz and current Executive Director Helle Aanesen in Norway in 2007. After donating more than $14M and helping to create twelve physical activity centers in cancer treatment facilities throughout Norway, AKTIV Against Cancer has established a strong presence in the United States, supporting cutting edge research on the benefits of exercise for the prevention and treatment of cancer, as well as the creation of fitness programs and facilities in cancer treatment centers.
I’m so excited to have the opportunity to run for AKTIV, and support an amazing organization. If you have a few minutes, any donation or contribution would be greatly appreciated. All of the money will go directly to the AKTIV Against Cancer to further their work. Thank you all so much!!
