BENEFITING: American Jewish World Service
ORGANIZER: American Jewish World Service
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Inspired by the Jewish commitment to justice, or "Tikkun Olam," American Jewish World Service (AJWS) works to realize human rights and end poverty in the developing world. Rooted in that mission, AJWS was founded in 1985 by American Jews who wanted to join together as global citizens to help some of the poorest and most oppressed people around the globe.
Shelley and Spencer have been big fans of AJWS for a while now. Last year, they donated to AJWS in honor of their wedding guests to highlight the important anti-poverty and human rights work that AJWS advances throughout the developing world.
AJWS has a two-pronged strategy for building a more just and equitable world. They provide over $35 million annually to more than 500 social justice organizations in 19 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. At the same time, AJWS advocates for laws and policies in the United States that will improve the lives of millions of people around the world.
They focus on five central issues that are key to securing human rights and ending poverty: Civil and Political Rights, Land and Water Rights, Sexual Health, Ending Child Marriage, and Disaster Relief.
On November 6th, we will each run 26.2 miles to support the important work that AJWS does throughout the world. Help us reach (or exceed!) our fundraising goal of $6,000!!! And come cheer us on in NYC on November 6, 2016!
