The St. Clare’s Homes for Children offer transitional care for medically fragile children who would otherwise board in hospitals or live at-risk in the community. They were the first in the country to provide transitional housing to babies with the virus. Today, many of the children residing in the St. Clare’s Homes include those with other chronic illnesses such as autism, childhood cancer, traumatic brain injuries, and conditions related to abuse or neglect. In the St. Clare’s Homes, ARFC staff work in close collaboration with NJ’s Division of Child Protection and Permanency (formerly DYFS) to ensure that each child is ready to exit into the community when appropriate permanent placements are found. ARFC also provides respite services for families with medically fragile children and education services to fostering or adoptive parents.
