A Handup for Mom and Three Children
Organized by: Keith Ward
I am a divorced mother raising three children, ages 7, 10, and 12. Over the last three years we have been recovering from very difficult times. I was sexually abused by my husband, who was later incarcerated for sexual abuse of his stepdaughter who lived with us. I later learned that he had abused two of our own children.
Because of the excellent human services provide by my county, we are slowly managing to recover and I have identified an unfurnished apartment in a safe neighborhood near good schools and good public transportation. Although I can afford the rent on this apartment, I have no fiscal reserves that allow me to provide the required security deposit of $2100. In addition I need support to allow me to minimally furnish this apartment via the Dollar Store, furniture donations, yard and estate sales, and used furniture stores. I estimate these needs to be $5100.
I have a law degree and have worked in a legal office in the past. I am seeking paralegal work, but have been stymied because I was unable to afford the extensive repairs required to keep my old car roadworthy. I am seeking funds to allow me to afford an old but reliable vehicle for work. I estimate I could obtain such a vehicle for $4000.
Finally, my goal is to pass the Virginia Bar Examination late in 2014 or early in 2015, and I am seeking support to enroll in a Virginia Bar Review Course, $3800.
Any amount you could provide my family that would go toward allowing us to accomplish this vital next step toward complete financial independence will be so gratefully appreciated. God bless you all for your help.
