Nicaragua is home to over half a million deaf individuals mainly due to the use of a poorly regulated and affordable antibiotic that damages the inner-ear. Special education services are not available in this developing country and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children are often isolated from their families and communities.
ANNDE's mission is to educate Deaf and hard of hearing children using bilingual and bimodal best teaching practices, support families in learning Nicaraguan Sign Language at the Escuela de Sordos in Leon, Nicaragua. ANNDE empowers advocates and professionals to support them, and inform the global community about the needs and potential for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing individuals in Nicaragua.
ANNDE is the sole supporter of the Escuela de Sordos in Leon, Nicaragua. Twenty-five children attend school each year at this school. Yearly tuition is $600 per year.
Donations to ANNDE are tax-deductible;100% of the donations received are used for tuition for the students.
