BENEFITING: Community Partners
EVENT DATE: Nov 29, 2015
When asked, nearly every student in Los Angeles has college aspirations. The finish line might be becoming a coder, a doctor, a social worker, an engineer - and obtaining a college degree is a vital part of the course. Unfortunately, in Los Angeles only 3 in 10 students actually make it to college and only 1 in 10 graduate with a degree. When we learn about the dearth of college counseling available at our schools and the lack of understanding about the college-going process in our comunities, these statistics come as no surprise.
Fortunately, an extraordinary set of college access programs have emerged to support the educational dreams of our youth. The Southern California College Access Network brings together more than 60 organizations to learn together, collaborate with one another, and advocate for policies that support low-income students to and through college. By doing so, not only are the trajectories of these students transformed, but also those of their families and our communities.
In honor of SoCal CAN's 10th anniversary this November, our executive director, Alison De Lucca, will be completing an Ironman. She is thrilled to be fundraising for the organization she loves, doing the thing she loves - swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 and then running 26.2 to the finish line. If you’d like to help support SoCal CAN, please consider donating to SoCal CAN’s 10-Year Anniversary Fund.
Thank you, in advance, for your donation! Every bit helps! And please let us know how we can help you continue to reach your finish lines, as a well-lived life is full of them.
*All funds donated to this campaign will go to SoCal CAN--through our fiscal sponsor, Community Partners--and will not be used to fund any of Alison's Ironman expenses.
