Active Minds is one of the largest mental health advocacy groups in the nation and the premier nonprofit supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults. Through award-winning programs and services, Active Minds is empowering a new generation to speak openly, act courageously, and change the conversation about mental health for everyone.
Why this is important
The second leading cause of death among college students is suicide. Each year, we tragically lose 1,100 of our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and friends. Because of the stigma that surrounds mental health, young adults and teens are the group least likely to seek help when they need it.
How Active Minds helps
To change this, the national nonprofit Active Minds provides resources and training to 550+ college and high school chapters nationwide and internationally. It's a peer-to-peer model that fights stigma, raises awareness, and encourages help seeking. More than 16,000 students serve as Active Minds campus advocates each year.
Let's talk about it
Stigma is shame. Shame causes silence. Silence hurts us all.
Approximately 1 in 4 people, age 18 and older, lives with a diagnosable mental health disorder. This includes depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders, and more. Given these numbers, why aren't we more open about mental health?
Be part of the change
Active Minds, together with our students and supporters, is leading the movement to create lasting change in the way mental health is talked about, cared for, and valued within the nation's schools, workplaces, and communities.
