We serve people diagnosed with special needs in Central Minnesota at Upper Oak Farm located in Motley (Leader). 120 acres of Timothy hay, wooded areas, an outdoor arena and barn offer the perfect setting for Equine Assisted Activities or Therapies. Fundraising efforts currently underway for a heated, covered arena. This structure is needed in order to serve the community year round with equine assisted activities or therapies, including the recent addition of mental health/grief counseling.

Our Mission Statement:

To strengthen, empower and enhance lives for people with special needs through Equine Assisted Activities or Therapies

Our Vision:

Realizing the full potential of the horse to inspire stronger, happier and healthier people in central Minnesota


People come to our Equine Assisted Activities or Therapies (EAAT) centers because there is nothing else like it in the world.  Typical therapy goals/objectives are met during “In barn” activities, Therapeutic Riding, or Hippotherapy, treatment with the help of the horse.  Equine Assisted Activities must have a certified Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (www.pathintl.org) PATH Intl. Instructor participating as the lead.  Equine Assisted Therapies must have a licensed therapist in addition to a PATH Intl. certified instructor.


Equine Assisted Activities Example:

Therapeutic Riding Lesson (rider with special needs goals/objectives addressed while learning to          tack/ride a horse)

   *certified PATH Intl Instructor leads lesson; trained volunteers to side walk and assist


Equine Assisted Therapies Example:

Hippotherapy (treatment with the help of a horse; rider benefits from horse’s motion/warmth)

combined with Traditional Physical, Occupational or Speech Language Therapist (PT, OT, SLP)

   *currently licensed PT, OT, SLP leads session based on therapy goals/objectives

   *certified PATH Intl Instructor assists with planning/conducting activities; trained volunteers to

     side walk and assist


Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy:

Mental Health session (conducted small group/individual format; barn family room/grooming stall/gardens/trails/woods)

combined with currently licensed Social Worker/Psychologist/Psychiatrist

   *certified PATH Intl Instructor present; trained volunteers to assist as needed


We are a nonprofit, 501(c)3 community-based equine assisted activities or therapies center drawing on people to volunteer time, talent and resources to ensure our sustainability and growth.
