In May 2014, at the age of 30, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with what was thought to be a benign tumor. The mass was so large that the doctors were unsure of what organs were affected. In June, I went into surgery and my left ovary was taken out. The tumor weighed 8 lbs and was a little bigger than the size of a basketball (pictured here in this fundraiser). A biopsy revealed it was a Stage I, Grade I Mucinous Carcinoma. I was lucky that it was taken out early before the tumor ruptured or spread to other organs. The scary part was that I had no idea that I even had anything wrong before going in for a yearly check-up because I had excuses for all the seemingly innocent symptoms. I'm currently healthy (CA-125 and CA19-9 markers are good) and pretty happy. Last year, I did the Whisper Walk for Ovarian Cancer Research and it was a very uplifting experience. This year I'd like to contribute more by trying to raise some funds during the Whisper Walk/5K Run for a worthy cause that I have personally dealt with.

UPDATE: ORIGINAL $200 GOAL MET THE FIRST DAY! I know that fundraising isn't a requirement for participation in the walk/run but it's a really great cause and it makes me happy that other people also care. Thanks everyone, especially my super loving and supportive family! <3
