EVENT: NO MORE Challenge 2017
Each year, more than 10 million women and men are physically abused by a partner and in too many instances, the violence results in missing and damaged teeth.
“I woke up to him pulling my teeth out with pliers.”
“I was shot in the face.”
“He slammed my face on the hood of the car.”
“I was punched several times in the mouth."
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program exists to help restore some of the most devastating effects of domestic violence. Since its 1999 inception, GBAS has restored the smiles of more than 1,600 survivors of domestic violence who’ve received dental injuries because of the abuse. Missing and broken teeth are a constant reminder of the past and diminish a survivor’s sense of self-worth.
Your gift will:
Ensure eligible GBAS applicants are efficiently connected with volunteer cosmetic dentists to restore their damaged smiles.
Make certain GBAS patients have sufficient resources to travel to and from all dental appointments.
Assist with dental laboratory costs and specialist fees often required to complete dental treatment.
Support outreach efforts to increase awareness of GBAS services and the issue of domestic violence.
Provide educational scholarships to eligible GBAS program recipients enrolled in college.
