BENEFITING: Chris Carrino Foundation for Fshd
EVENT DATE: Jun 19, 2016
In life there is one thing that is certain, we never stop dreaming and setting goals.
I know this for certain because in recent years I have set a lot of goals and fortunately met most of them. My next dream is to complete an Ironman, a race that challenges the body and mind to its limits.
To reach that goal – I need to take my first step, The Ironman 70.3 on June 19th in Syracuse
At half the distance of an Ironman, it is still a great challenge and a goal in its own right.
It is a 1.2 mile swim followed by a 56 mile bike ride followed by a 13.1 mile run (half marathon)
But I will meet this goal.
My friend Chris Carrino has a goal. Chris, the radio voice of the Brooklyn Nets has a goal to find a cure and treatment for the disease that challenges him every day.
Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) FSHD is a form of muscular dystrophy that causes progressive muscle wasting and weakness. The disease initially affects the muscles of the face (facio), shoulder (scapulo), and upper arms (humeral).
The degeneration of muscle can also spread to the back, pelvis and legs. Although FSHD is now the most common form of muscular dystrophy, FSHD research has been dramatically under funded by major muscular dystrophy organizations and the National Institutes of Health for decades.
The Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD is the only organization in the New York area, and only one of three in the nation, specifically focused on FSHD. And I want to help Chris and I want your help.
Please consider donating and if you can’t do that, please watch this video recently featured on Yahoo Sports! and pass it along
