I (Magdalena) have been at Cycles for Change for exactly 1 year, now. It's been a roller coaster. I remember when Andrew Fahlstrom invited me to Mayday Cafe to discuss the potential job - youth, bikes, working with more people of color - I was down. I was immediately asked to plan a 9-week summer program for youth, and to hire a DJ, host, and live act for a national event just weeks away. Throughout the summer that followed, my mom and my partner at the time got little from me besides my work-induced exhaustion. AND, in my time at C4C, I've been gifted with coworkers who are humbly committed to building community with the people who come into our shops. I hear caring inquiries, honest feedback, and laughter on a daily basis. We have a lot of work to do when it comes to walking the talk - to divest from white supremacy and a deficit mindset - and there is SO MUCH potential.
Your donations help us grow this family that is co-creating space with & for people typically excluded from the bike world, especially women, trans, femme, low-wealth, Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
Please consider donating, and consider riding with Brandie and I! We're gonna wear skirts ;)
