The first question people ask me when I meet them is what is my heritage or racial background? "What are you?" is what they say. When I was young I thought I was an Indian like Pocahantas and was confused growing up in a Caucasian world. As I grew older, I began to accept and claim myself as a Philippine and yes the correct word would be Filipina, but I enjoy saying Philippine. My grandfather was part Filipino but grew up as an orphan in California and the Filipino culture was lost in my family. I am happy to have the opportunity to connect with the Filipino community and get back to my roots.
In early November of 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Yolanda, hit the Philippines displacing millions of citizens and killing over 3,000 people. They are currently still in dire need of disaster relief.
Water Well Wishes has been created to raise funds to build an aqua tower in Quezon City, an area near Manila in the Philippines. Aqua towers help those, like my sponsor child Queen, who need a source of clean drinking water. Queen has been sponsored by me through Children International for the past year. All of the proceeds will be donated to Children International and their partner Planet Water Foundation. They have teamed together to build emergency water systems in regions where they are needed most. There is no overhead and 100% of what is donated goes to the construction of this one tower.
It will take billions of dollars to reconstruct what has been damaged by the typhoon. Water sources are top priority in the rehabilitation of the country. Please donate now to help build the future of the Philippines.
I will be planning a trip to Quezon City this summer after classes are done to visit the newly built Aqua Tower and hopefully my sponsor child, Queen.
Thank you for your contributions!
