I’m so excited to be running in the 2014 Boston Marathon to benefit WUN! Kim Grady, a longtime client of mine and a WUN volunteer, is raising a teenage son with narcolepsy. I’ve been cutting John’s hair every month for the past 5 years, so I knew about his narcolepsy. But until Kim shared with me how he struggles every day just trying to live the most normal life he can, I had not idea what a terrible disorder it is. Now that he is a junior in high school, I feel as though I have watched John grow into a fine young man.
Kim has also told me how WUN is helping the hundreds of thousands of American living with this awful disease. So I would love to help kids like John. As a WUNner, I’m working to spread narcolepsy awareness, so diagnosis can take place sooner. And I’m raising funds for research to find ways to prevent, treat, and ultimately cure narcolepsy.
The 2014 Boston Marathon will be my first marathon as a runner. Every year I go as a spectator to watch this incredible race, so I can’t wait to be “inside the ropes” at the starting line in Hopkinton and at the finish line on Boylston Street! I never thought a marathon would be something I could accomplish, but on April 21, 2014, I’ll gladly prove myself wrong. With support from my friends and family, anything is possible!
Like most runners from New England, I expect to be training through inclement weather. But April will be here before I know it! Sprinting across the finish line of the Boston Marathon will be one of the most rewarding accomplishments of my young life.
I appreciate your support immensely!
