Wright State Softball is raising funds to support the mounting medical expenses of one of our own, Julie Brittingham. Julie is an incredible member of the Wright State family, is the wife of Assistant Coach Dave Brittingham, and has been bravely fighting Alpha-1 since 2000.
Alpha-1 is among one of the most widely underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed disorders, and can result in life-threatening liver or lung disease in children and adults. It is estimated that 21 million people in the U.S. are undetected carriers of an abnormal gene that causes Alpha-1 and often, it takes an average of five doctors and seven years from the time symptoms first appear before a proper diagnosis is made.
It is Julie’s hope that continued research to find better treatments along with further education on Alpha-1 will help improve the quality of life for others who have been diagnosed with the disorder and the families that support them. Julie believes it’s important to “Dream Big and Never Give Up! You never know what is waiting for you!”
No donation is too small, and we'd appreciate any way you can help!
