The Women's Center of Greater Lansing helps women heal past hurts and ongoing struggles, organize their current needs, plan for the future, and execute in order to reach their full potential.
We offer a variety of services, ranging from counseling to career planning, support groups to a legal clinic. All services are offered on a sliding fee scale and some are free. In nearly ten years of operation, we have served 5,000+ women while operating mainly on private donations.
There are other agencies within our community that provide job placement assistance, however many women face challenges in their lives that traditional local resources do not address. These challenges include the physical and emotional effects of domestic assault and sexual violence, homemaker displacement, homelessness, and physical or psychiatric disability, all of which can be substantial barriers to employment.
We are the organization that fills the gap.
Our programs meet these challenges with a focus on job readiness and the goal of achieving long-term, gainful employment. We have included funds in our budget to aid women in obtaining medical and dental care along with transportation because we have recognized that these things can create hurdles to attaining long-term employment.
The goal of this program is to help women achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency. This program focuses on the development and enhancement of a number of career skills such as interviewing, computer literacy, knowledge and awareness of the current job market, job search, applying for financial aid, skilled trade apprenticeships, and salary negotiations. We are complementing this program with our existing personal and career counseling services, workshops, and support groups. Additionally, our services and workshops on financial management, credit repair, home buyer education, and auto financing are particularly valuable in complementing WomenPower, providing all of the tools necessary to fully benefit from their economic self-sufficiency.
These programs educate women on gaining and protecting financial assets, handling a budget, managing debt, raising financially savvy children, saving for retirement, and maximizing their available financial resources.
Donate today and support the critical mission of the Center and give women in Greater Lansing hope.
