What is the route and distance?
The 3.2-mile route (about a 5k) begins at UGM’s Men’s Mission in downtown Salem, loops around Wallace Marine Park and ends at the Riverfront Park Pavilion. Here is a google map of the route. Walk for Hope & Fun Run Route
How can I win Prizes?
Our coveted “walking man” trophy will spend the next year with the top fundraising team or individual. Walkers, runners and volunteers can join in the friendly competition! Shout out to Pinnacle Physical Therapy for winning last year’s top-fundraising trophy!
Is this a timed race?
The race is not timed. Feel free to use your favorite app to time yourself!
How can I help?
Walk, run, volunteer and/or promote! You can participate by yourself or get a group of your friends to join in. For more information, click REGISTER. You’ll also see an option to set up a fundraising team, or to donate toward the cause – giving hope to the homeless.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Volunteer opportunities range from serving beforehand at the UGM Admin Office to helping on the dayof the event with set-up, registration, route, first aid, after-party, kids’ zone or clean-up. What is the age requirement to volunteer?
There’s a wide variety of roles available, and even small kids can help out in a couple spots! All minors (age 17 or younger) must be accompanied by an adult.
Will there be places to rest along the route?
Water stations at kilometers one, two and three will be equipped with chairs and first aid. Don’t forget to take a selfie while you’re resting! Share it on social media with hashtags #w4h2016 and #hope365.
Are there restrooms along the route?
Public restrooms are available at Riverfront Park near the playground and at Wallace Marine Park near the walking bridge.
How do the shirts fit? Do sizes run large?
Our t-shirts come in men’s or youth sizes and should be true to size.
When/where do I pick up my T-shirt?
T-shirts and event info can be picked up at the Administrative Office (745 Commercial St NE Salem, OR 97301) 9am and 5pm, Thursday and Friday, June 9-10.
How early should I show up for the Walk?
We recommend arriving early to find a place to park. Welcome and announcements begin at 9:15am
Where should I park?
Free parking is available at the Chemeketa Parkade, just across the street from the Men’s Mission (starting line.) You may also park near the Riverfront Park Pavilion (finish line.)
Can I buy an extra t-shirt?
A t-shirt comes with your walk/run registration (if you register before May 27), but extra t-shirts can be ordered for $10.
What happens if there is bad weather?
What’s bad weather? We’re Oregonians! We’ll be walking or running for hope, rain or shine.
What are selfie stations?
Grab your friends for a quick group photo along the route with the scenic Willamette River in the background. Keep an eye out for that perfect selfie spot and don’t forget the hashtags! #w4h2016 #hope365
Do I have to register online?
Online registration is preferred, but you can also register in person at the UGM Admin Office: 745 Commercial St NE, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm or, download a registration form here and send with check to: PO Box 431, Salem OR 97308.
Can I donate toward a team?
Yes. Donations can be made online at http://www.ugmsalem.org/walkforhope or by check sent to PO Box 431, Salem OR 97308. Be sure to specify in the notes that the donation is for Walk for Hope, including your name and team name, so the funds can be directed toward your fundraising efforts. A donation sheet can be downloaded here.
Is everyone required to fundraise?
There is no requirement to fundraise. We are incredibly grateful for your participation at any level.
Can I register for someone else?
It is best if each person registers for themselves. If you are registering your family, you can choose either of the family options, or at the end of each registration, you will have the option to add another registration. Your information will be saved in the form.
How much do you charge for children?
Registration is free for children under 5. Children age 5-12 are $10.00 (includes t-shirt)
How do I set up my own team?
When registering online, you will have the option to create a team, join a team, or fundraise as an individual. If you have questions while registering, please contact UGM Admin office at 503.967.6388 or email@example.com.
What if the website isn't taking my credit card information?
Please contact your bank and then try again. You can also call our Admin Office at UGM by calling 503.967.6388 between the hours of 8:30am-5:00pm.
What a great turnout at Saturday's Walk for Hope & Fun Run! More than 500 walkers, runners and volunteers helped make the event a huge success, raising over $30,000 for our guests! Thank you to all who gave generously of their time and resources. We can't wait for next year's event - Saturday, June 10, 2017!
