BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT: Swim-A-Cross Plus
This is the 6th year I will be swimming in the American Red Cross Swim-A-Cross (SAC). As you might remember, the SAC is a competition between pools in my local area. The pools race against each other to see who can raise the most money for the Red Cross and win the SAC trophy. Travis Pointe Country Club (TPCC), which is the pool I swim for, has won this competition 4 years in a row. Last year, with ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT, I was able to raise over $12,000. This year my goal is $13,000. I will be in the pool for 5 hours on July 10th and I hope to swim at least 400 laps (which is almost 6 miles, I think).
The Red Cross does many wonderful things for our community. They host blood drives so that blood and platelets are available for people who need it, they help people who have been affected by house fires and natural disasters, and they send care packages overseas to the people who are serving in our armed forces. Recently, at my school (Emerson), the Red Cross helped one of the 5th grade classes put on a blood drive in our gymnasium. WIth the help of the Red Cross, the Emerson 5th graders gathered a grand total of 34 pints of blood. That's enough to save 102 lives!!
I hope you will choose to support my efforts this year. As with previous years, you can donate a per-lap fee or a flat fee. A per-lap fee is where you donate a certain amount of money for every lap I swim (I'm going to swim a lot of laps so beware!) A flat fee is a fixed amount of money that you would like to donate to the Red Cross. Please note that all donations are tax deductible. THANK YOU so much.
