Letter to Families:
Dear Trailside Families,
Our school is honored to participate in a brand new pilot program: Patriot League. Patriot League is an extension of the Boot Campaign, a non-profit 501(c)(3), charitable organization whose mission is to support our troops and their families:
Boot Campaign is dedicated to promoting patriotism for Americaand our military community; raising awareness of the unique challenges service members face during and post-service; and providing assistance to military personnel, past and present, and their families. (www.bootcampaign.org)
As an extension of the Boot Campaign, the Patriot League seeks to “awake the Patriot in all of us.” To support this goal, our Compass lessons and activities for the month of November will be centered on showing examples of patriotism and honoring those who make sacrifices for the basic freedoms we enjoy every day in America. We want to get our “boots on,” as well and do what we can for those that have served and continue to serve to our nation.
If you or your family would like to honor any current or former military service member, please make sure your child knows his or her name. Students will be encouraged to complete a “Boot” cut-out to express their patriotism and honor a current, or former, member of the Armed Forces. If possible, we would love to have pictures of these service members, our Trailside families’ mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles, aunts, brothers, and sisters, to add to our “Boots” and line the halls of Trailside to show our thanks and respect.
Make an impact
In addition to raising awareness and promoting patriotism, there is also a fundraising facet to the program. Donations will be taken online via Trailside’s Patriot League Crowdrise page: https://www.crowdrise.com/TrailsideMiddlePatriotLeague. Donations benefit individuals in need through the Boot Campaign’s Military Recovery Fund (MRF). If you are able to do so, please donate.
As a whole school, we are also hoping everyone will wear boots to “kick off” our fundraising campaign every day during the week of November 9-13. Additionally, students will be making patriotic rubber-band bracelets, which will catch the attention of others, raise awareness, and spark conversations. We will post our fundraising link and share photos of Timber Wolves with their #BootsOn.
We thank you in advance for supporting your child and our Trailside Pack in this effort to ignite the PATRIOT in all of us. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Skarupa or the Compass committee, and thanks for helping us get our #BootsOn.
