TEAM UNICEF NYC - 2017 TCS NYC MARATHON
THE STORY:
It is September 2016 when my husband and I leave Johannesburg, South Africa, in our Land Rover Defender. Well equiped & preparred we start a trip that we find out soon will become the journey of our lives. In the 8 months that followed we would drive 35,500 km, through 17 African countries, spending days and days in local villages.
It was there & then I saw the importance of UNICEF's work with my own eyes. To make our trip even more meaningful, I will run the New York Marathon this November to raise at least $5,000 for UNICEF.
I have seen the passion, the strength, the drive and the resilience of the people, but I have also seen how vulnerable they can be and the help they need. In many countries we've seen NGO's trying to make a difference. But by speaking directly to local people we came to know what they believe makes the difference, with UNICEF's help being amongst the most important and appreciated.
I have seen how important UNICEF's work is. Children are amongst the most vulnerable, especially in times of extreme drought like now in North East Africa. This continent has so much potential and together we can assist, with the smallest amount of effort, to ensure each individual in need can create a sustainable future for themselves.
