ORGANIZER: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
I am a genetic counselor with the John Ritter Research Program at UTHealth. I have never run a marathon before but was was presented with a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for aortic disease by running the NYC Marathon on 'Team Ritter' for The John Ritter Foundation. So I thought, "Why not begin my marathon career supporting something so important to me?!" I feel honored to be a member of Team Ritter and to have the opportunity to run with the rest of my Ritter teammates who all have the same passion to raise awareness for aortic disease.
Through my experience working with individuals and their families affected by aortic disease at UT, I have seen many people lose family members to aortic dissections too early in life. Now we know that with education and awareness about one's family history and the risk factors for aortic aneurysms and dissections, these premature deaths are preventable which is extremely powerful information! I am looking forward to the NYC Marathon in November of 2012 and the road to raising awareness and promoting research for aortic disease along the way!
Please check out the John Ritter Foundation's website at: http://johnritterfoundation.org/ to learn more about aortic disease, the risk factors and genetics of aortic aneurysms and dissections.
