Hello! I am so thrilled and honored to be running the New York City Marathon with Team MR8. Team MR8 was formed shortly after the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon in honor and memory of Martin Richard, the youngest victim of the attack. The foundation's mission is to honor Martin's message of "No more hurting people. Peace" by investing in education, athletics, and community. I am happy to be raising funds to help the Richard Family continue and expand this mission. I hope you will consider donating to this fantastic charity.
New York City will be my first marathon, and I really wanted to give it an extra special purpose. I began running just a couple months before the Boston Marathon in 2013. My husband was training for his second Boston Marathon that year and was a big part of my motivation for beginning to run. We have since become a running family - running races together and cheering for each other. Our three children take special pride in all the medals they have earned at various events. We often take our children to spectate at races and they particularly love to cheer for their Dad on the Boston Marathon course. In 2013, we were in Newton on a beautiful day cheering for my husband and looking forward to celebrating another successful marathon finish. A short time later, my husband was running on Boylston Street when the bombs exploded. That day so many peoples' lives were irrevocably changed. Personally, I will never cross a finish line with out thinking of those people who no longer have the opportunity to do so. Every time I take my children to a race, I think of Martin and his family. I am amazed at what they have accomplished after losing Martin and having their lives changed beyond comprehension. I am thankful to have the opportunity to honor Martin and help spread his simple yet powerful message.
