They say, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Well, let's just say I've learned that to be true first hand.
As most of us do, I spent most of my life feeling invincible. I thought nothing bad could ever really happen to "me." In April of 2008, I was in the best shape of my life, physically and mentally, but I had a small surgical procedure (involuntary), and after this I never felt the same.
After 18 months of not knowing what was wrong with me I was diagnosed with lupus and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and Rhumatoid Arthritis.
Since then I've had my hip and knee reconstructed, put on a huge amount of weight and had 3+ years of infusions of a chemo class medication . Recently starting monthy infusions again. This has been very difficult both physically and emotionally. Living with a disease sucks! But I'm proud to say I've made lemonade out of the lemons life has given me. I've done the best I know how to try and handle this gracefully.
The past two years have been very difficult, but I am motivated to continue on in the fight against lupus and I would be so grateful to have your support.
Most everyone in my life is aware of all of this. I believe there is nothing to hide, but at the same time, I don't publicize my struggles. It wasn't until getting involved in Team Lupus LA for the LA Marathon 3 years ago that I started to share my story.
Last year our team took it up a notch and raised $25,000 for Lupus LA. Please join us again as we participate in the LA Big 5K on Saturday, February 13, 2016. You can donating to this fundraising page, or joining me on Team Fogel! I would be so incredibly touched and honored to have your support. The money raised by Team Fogel will go to research and hopefully one day find a cure for lupus. We need to raise awareness and funds! Please feel free to share this with anyone else you feel may be interested in supporting me and this important cause!
Thank you so much in advance!
Love, Nicole and teamFOGEL
