Who would have thought, Perrie Grace, an exercise-loving, do-gooder!
Since moving to New York last year I’ve been working for Every Mother Counts, an amazing organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, every where. The work has changed my life in so many ways – all for the better. One being, I started running. And I actually like it!
Last week, I ran the Hamptons Half Marathon. I finished and set a new personal record of 1:53. I also won a bet with my coworker….which meant he had to eat an entire chocolate cake after being chocolate free for 25 years. If I had lost, the agreement was to do a stand-up comedy routine in front of a live audience. Thankfully, that will stay well-down my list of life’s goals for now.
Coming up on November 8th, I’ll be running the Golden Gate Half Marathon to support Every Mother Counts. I’m reaching out to you to help support this amazing organization which I am so proud of.
Why Every Mother Counts?
Every year, hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth worldwide. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that 98% of these deaths can be prevented. We have the tools and the know-how to save these mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers, doctors, caregivers and community leaders—if we make it a priority.
I have chosen to take part in road races because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. My hope is to not only increase awareness for the cause but to also make the vital connection for people that so many pregnant women live far from health services around the world and that distance does make a difference. Simply put, I want to run so that others don't have to.
I’m asking for support no matter how big or small. On our end, 100% of your donation goes directly to support maternal health programs on the ground. You use this page to donate to my online fundraising.
If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to learn more about the work EMC is doing. I hope you’ll help support the organization by making a donation and spreading the word! Every mile I run from the start of the race until the finish line is dedicated to the mothers who often face insurmountable obstacles in receiving the care they deserve.
Oh, and if you happen to be in the SF area on November 8th and are up for some cheering, come out to root the Graces and team EMC!
