What is Team Stop the Clot for the TCS NYC Marathon?
It's an incredibly dedicated Team made up of 10 marathoners. It's a team of PE survivors and those running in memory or in honor of a loved one, touched by blood clots. Read each of their stories. No doubt, you'll learn something about their commitment and their reason for running 26.2 miles.
This Team has surpassed every goal set for them! Starting with a $30,000 fundraising goal back in March, they're now well on their way to meeting and hopefully, exceeding their $80,000 goal by marathon day - November 1. Every dollar raised has given them the chance to educate others and raise awareness about blood clots and clotting disorders.
Blood clots affect people from all walks of life. It’s difficult to look at the numbers below, and not think of the individuals — their families, their friends. It's also difficult to not ask yourself, “Could I be at risk for a blood clot?” The answer most certainly is: Yes. Everyone may be at risk. Blood clots don’t discriminate. They can just as easily affect athletes as well as those less physically fit. They affect men, women and children, too. Rich and poor, blood clots do not discriminate.
Tragically, too many lives are affected by blood clots, and too many lives are lost because public awareness about life-threatening blood clots is so low. Study after study have shown that fewer than a 1 in 4 people have any recognition of blood clots or their signs and symptoms.
On average, 274 people die every day from blood clots. Team Stop the Clot is making a difference, and you can too.
