Running with Island Grace!
We are proud and honored to run for those who can't!
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital has a special place in our hearts. In April of 2012, our mother Robin Harvey, was hit by a drunk driver while biking home from work. She suffered innumerable broken bones and bruises, but most significantly, she had a traumatic brain injury. When the time was right, she moved from BMC over to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Spaulding's staff was welcoming, supportive and helped our Mom make almost a full recovery.
In 2014, (2 years later) we joined our Mom and the rest fo the Race for Rehab team and ran in the 2014 Boston Marathon. We could not believe that she was able to overcome the injuries she had and run 26.2 miles. There was no doubt that Spaulding Rehab and its role in not only her recovery but also the recoveries of so many (especially those who suffered from the 2014 Marathon Bombings) helped inspire and motivate her to overcome miraculous odds.
Last year, Adriene and Mom were training to run the 2015 Boston Marathon with the Race for Rehab team, their second marathon together. On February 1st, Mom went out for a run before watching the Patriots play in the SuperBowl and she was struck from behind by a vehicle and was killed. Eerily similar to her first accident, however her body was unable to bounce back. Robin Harvey proved to be a woman who could take on any challenge, big or small. She was an avid lover of sports and was extremely competitive. We are running as a tribute to her and her beautiful life, while also supporting a hospital we hold close to our hearts.
We have decided to take on this winter's training head on and look forward to Patriot's Day, where we will join so many others who run for those who can't. We hope you consider supporting us in this endeavor.
Peace and Love
