Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Walk with the Soldiers?
A: Walk with the Soldiers is a national campaign created to ensure that our wounded veterans of Mission: Mt. Whitney are not walking through their journey to recovery alone. It is a grassroots fundraising effort using Fitbit as a step-counting partner and Crowdrise as an online fundraising partner. While everyone can't be on the mountain with the soldiers, you can show your support by joining a team or making a donation and by spreading the word of this important work.
Q: How can I participate?
A: First, select a team to join. Consider supporting your local hometown veteran, or if you're an employee of Wells Fargo or West Pharma - join their corporate team. There is also a Team No Barriers page as well as a Team Military Families for anyone else who wants to join the campaign. No Barriers is the parent organization of Soldiers to Summits.
Second, register with this team here on Crowdrise. From there, you'll receive an email communication with further activation details and information on how to receive your Fitbit!
Q: Where do I walk?
A: All across the nation individuals will be matching the steps of our wounded veterans of Mission: Mt. Whitney. Walk in your hometown; find a “summit” of your own. Gather others to join a team and walk with you. In doing so you’ll take pride in knowing that your steps will be the same as our wounded veterans climbing Mt. Whitney and taking their own journey toward recovery.
Q: How are steps counted?
A: Once you receive your Fitbit and register it to your fundraising page, your steps will be synced to a national total recorded here on the Crowdrise homepage. Through September 1st, all steps tracked are training steps to prepare pledgers for their 25-mile journey. On the 1st of September the national steps total will reset to zero as the Mission: Mt. Whitney team prepares to summit Mt. Whitney. From September 1st - September 12th, pledgers will walk their 25-mile minimum. These steps are tracked and combined as a nation, both publicly- here, and privately through your personal Fitbit portal.
Q: How do I get my Fitbit?
A: When you qualify you’ll receive a link to order your Fitbit directly. It will be shipped to your home at no cost to you along with information on how to activate it and begin tracking your steps.
Q: What if I already have a Fitbit?
A: You still get a free Fitbit through your Walk with the Soldiers campaign. Recruit a friend to walk with you; give it to someone you love; or save it for a holiday or birthday gift of a loved one!
Q: How do I personalize my fundraising page?
A: Through Edit my Fundraiser tab you can upload up to 12 personal photos. Tell your own story about why Walking with the Soldiers is important to you, how it touches your heart, and why it matters. Share your personal fitness goal and ask people to help you reach your fundraising and personal goals while supporting our country’s wounded military men and women.
Q: What if I can't reach my fundraising goal?
A: Every dollar matters and by joining the team you are committing to doing your best to reach your goal. Many will exceed it. No Barriers is committed to helping all individuals achieve their fundraising goals. We have milestones set up with giveaways and will have scheduled contests to keep everyone pushing toward their goal. We’re here to help and it’s easier than you think with our online and Facebook fundraising tips and tools.
Q: Are donations tax exempt?
A: Yes, all donations benefit No Barriers USA programs. No Barriers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for your generous financial donation.
Q: What if I have questions?
A: All inquiries should be directed to: Walkwiththesoldiers@nobarriersusa.org
