The Story

More than half a million babies are born too soon. In Texas, 1 in 8 babies are born prematurely. Many grow up with life-long disabilities. Some don’t survive. The emotional impact of birth defects and premature birth on families is high--and the cost to businesses is astronomical.

The March of Dimes has made great strides since our founding over 75 years ago. Today, almost all babies receive a polio vaccine developed with funding from the March of Dimes. Newborn screening is saving babies from death and disability. Our research has been recognized with 13 Nobel Prizes and has improved health for millions of children.

However, researchers still have a way to go before every baby is born healthy, as the cause of nearly half of these ailments is still unknown.

Your support gives moms and babies a chance at a healthy start in life. Help fund lifesaving research, outreach to encourage more moms to get prenatal care, comfort to families with a baby in intensive care, or just give to create a better tomorrow for our community.
