“Don’t Give Up… Don’t Ever Give Up!”
I decided to run in this year’s NYC Marathon for two reasons:
1. My sister-in-law who is battling cancer
2. Family member who is struggling with depression
My sister-in-law’s battle began 4 years ago with breast cancer which unfortunately spread to her liver and has only gotten worse. I also have a family member who has been struggling with depression for the past few years. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to be of much help to my sister-in-law or family member. So I decided to fund raise and run this race on their behalf. Although this marathon will be quite a challenge after my dual knee surgery, I’ve been given the go-ahead by the doctor, and I promise to not give up and I promise to give it my all.
Through this effort, I would like to spread hope, courage, and indomitable spirit to all those (including their family and friends) that are battling cancer and depression. With that in mind, I chose an organization that embodied the same spirit, Team V. The V Foundation was founded by ESPN and former NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano to fund cancer research and related programs.
I realize that there are numerous requests from many worthy causes, but would you consider joining this effort with a contribution?
Thank you for your help.
