Your donations help support School in the Cloud's three initiatives:
Where kids guide the lesson
School in the Cloud has physical learning labs in India to experiment with all things SOLE. Dotted with computers and decorated with care, these labs create an environment that stimulates curiosity, and inspires kids to explore the world at their fingertips. From the School in the Cloud hub near Calcutta to remote labs in the jungle of West Bengal, these labs provide educational opportunities for children living there and give a sense of pride to communities that want to offer much more.
The Granny Cloud
Educators on call, via Skype
The Granny Cloud consists of 100+ dedicated volunteers from around the world who Skype into remote locations to chat with children. By encouraging kids rather than giving outright instruction, they guide students on their SOLE adventures. Don't be fooled by the name — you don't need to be an actual granny to be a part of the Granny Cloud. Grannies range in age from 24 to 78, and are both male and female. What they all share: a universal "grandmother approach" to education. By providing unconditional encouragement, Grannies create an environment where children can thrive.
A global education community
SOLEs are shaking up education in and out of the classroom. The School in the Cloud community has develop clustered, global SOLE networks around the world, from after-school programs in Europe, to classrooms in South America. Research partners of Newcastle University's SOLE Central, these networks work with School in the Cloud to increase digital literacy, confidence and problem solving skills for their communities.

The School in the Cloud is an educational initiative in which memorization takes a backseat to curiosity. The heart of this approach is the SOLE, or self-organized learning environment. In SOLEs, children work in groups, using the Internet to explore the kind of big questions that spark imagination. Rather than being tested on knowing the answers, students help each other discover answers as they're encouraged by e-mediators in the "Granny Cloud."
Launched by Sugata Mitra with the 2013 TED Prize, the School in the Cloud is now a global phenomenon. In Greenland, SOLEs inspire students in a school with a large Inuit population; in India, children walk through the jungle to learning labs for the opportunity to take part in SOLEs. Join us as we raise money to spread SOLEs to more classrooms around the world, especially places with limited access to traditional educators.
