Together We Can Make A Difference!
I ran my first Half Marathon in October of 2012. It was a great experience so I committed to train and run the Full Marathon in 2013. Following the tragedy in Newtown in December of 2012 my training and running took on a whole new meaning…26 victims...26 miles…I will run it for them, in their honor! And so I did. I trained for months and every run and every mile was for those victims. And it continues to be as you will see me wearing green in every race. So I trained and ran the Hartford Marathon in October of 2013. It was a great experience and I met my goals…“ to have fun, not get hurt and finish! I continued to run after that but decided to stay with half marathons and told myself that unless there is a compelling reason or cause I think one marathon is good for me. Well that compelling reason and cause presented itself and I cannot express how honored I was to have been selected to represent Sandy Hook Promise as part of their 2015 New Your City Marathon Team on November 1, 2015! Every minute of the training and then the day itself were humbling. I laughed, cried and then laughed and cried some more. Every mile was for those lost that day and I have to say I truly had 26 angles on my back! There were times where I thought that my feet were not even hitting the ground! I am proud to say that with the help of a great community I raised $8630!
So here we are a year later and I am honored once again to have the opportunity participate with the team for a second year and to raise funds to support such an important cause. So this is not just about me running the marathon, it is about all of us coming together to help the cause! If we can raise enough money to provide at least one program of mental wellness early-identification & intervention to those in need we will have succeeded. Together we can make a difference…please join me in the journey and thank you in advance for your donation!
